STEERING COMMITTEE is my salute to the Red Buses. They have been part of the scene on the Going-to-the-Sun Highway ever since the first days of elegant motor touring and grand lodges in Glacier Park.

Early in the 20th Century, comfortable motor cars, wilderness tourists, and wild animals all met for the first time in the mountain west. In a process that is still going on today, there were some issues of who's in charge to be worked out. Especially when grappling with new technology, optimism and enthusiasm often create some pretty scary downhill situations.

Hats off to Ford, the Glacier Fund, and all the thers who worked so long and so well to put the handsome old "Jammers" back on the road. The first to be done was old Number 98, shown here shortly before going out of service at the "Turn of the Century"...THEY ARE BACK!
